48 Hour Race - But Did I Die?

Ha!  As you can assume from there even being a blog post, I didn't die.

My longest run up to this point was 16 miles.  My longest ruck up to this point was 26.2 miles.  And the most I've ever ran in 48 hours was 48 miles (Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge).

TL;DR: I completed 104 laps, just a little over 104 miles on course with 107 miles total during the weekend.  Everything hurts.  Can't wait to do it again.

Here I am a few days after and my right foot and ankle are still too swollen to wear shoes.  My ankles are tore up from the Hu tag.  My kidneys hurt.  My digestion still isn't working.  And I wish I could do it again now.  I can do better.

Here are the things I learned:

Don't force eat if nothing is moving.  Take a break from eating if you need to.

Begin running with crew socks for Hu Tags.  I've always ran with ankle length Balega socks which are my fave.  I switched to crew for the race and couldn't take it.  Turns out my bare ankle couldn't take the Hu tag either.

Have more back up pairs of shoes.  One of my pair became unwearable over the weekend.

Instead of taking a 20 minute nap and then a little later an hour nap, combine them altogether to give my legs more recovery time.

Slow down and especially slow down to a speed that doesn't hurt.  I kept trying to maintain my pace and then would have to rest.  I found if I tapered my speed according to pain I was able to stay on my feet longer.

Hat and sunglasses are a requirement.  Thank goodness I packed mine last minute.

There you have it.  I think that was my total brain dump and my notes for later reference for myself.  Let me go through and mark up so I can skim this later for deets I might forget.
