Pause for Grace

There is a popular self-help person that fucked up in a big way.  There are serious gaps in this person's self-awareness.

The community though, overall is showing a complete lack of grace.

It isn't their place to do that as this person is a thought leader and being a thought leader that is leading people to where they share this same lack of self-awareness would be just awful.

But it is more than that.

It is an opportunity to take someone down a peg for trying.  For being.  For having the audacity.  The unmitigated gall.  (Anyone?  No?  Ok then, here)

It is a bit of crab mentality.  I'm sure you've heard of it, but in case you need a reminder.  Crab mentality relates to the way that crabs grab onto each other and keep everyone and anyone from escaping the pot.  For us non-crab people, it is "if I can't have it, no one can."  It is a scarcity mindset.

Yes, we need to keep our leaders accountable.  Yes, we need to know when someone is no longer a leader we wish to follow.  I don't want to live in a "cancel" society.  I experienced that with Jane Fonda, The Dixie Chicks, and I'm good.

I choose to go in a different direction.  I know this leader and I are not heading in the same direction so I can move on.

With grace, I hope she can find counsel that will help her with her self-awareness as I know her true desire is to become a person she can be proud of.  With grace, I pray my blind spots are pointed out to me.

Pause for grace.  Where do you need to receive it?  Where do you need to give it?

  1. This really hit me in the heart. I have a hard time pausing for grace and often find myself in the “crab mentality” I feel slighted, so I retaliate….. most of the time it’s totally unintentional on the other persons behalf and I know better than tp behave that way. Thanks for the reminder to live more intentionally! Hugs!
