During this past weekend, I was on retreat. The main talking points were on the book. This, for me, really hit hard. Sharing in case it might for you too.
“The devil’s primary weapon is temptation. And the oldest temptation in his playbook is our inherent desire to be like God, but without God’s help. You may not have realized this, but you constantly get yourself and God confused. There’s a difference between you and God: God never thinks he’s you! That said, ever since mankind’s temptation in the Garden, we’ve wanted to be God. ‘You shall be like gods’ was the first temptation thrown at mankind.”
“Temptation 1 : You shall be all knowing”
“Nowadays, he can tempt you to lose yourself in the mega-now: ‘Take it ALL in!’”
“Clickbait is hard to resist, isn’t it? We want to know. More and more and more and more. We want to be ‘on top’ of everything. ‘You shall be like gods.’ It gives us the illusion of control. Godlike control.
“Temptation 2 : You shall be all doing”
“We’ve become a world of multitaskers. We write a book while responding to texts while keeping on top of the news while updating social media while (insert your distraction here). The problem is, while everyone is expected to multitask their day away, to be all doing, no one is actually good at it.”
