The Perfect Storm - The Cycle of Buying

Illuminated Manuscript, Compendium of computistical texts, TOP: Diagram of the planetary orbits and zodiac BOTTOM: Diagram of the planet cycles, Walters Art Museum Ms. W.73, fol. 2v

Did you know there is perfect cycle?  It is the buying/decluttering cycle.  Did you know it was engineered?

It is a lovely perpetual machine.

You buy to become.  You buy to create this fantasy self.  You buy to show you are ________.

Then you wake up and you are surrounded and drowning in stuff.  You MUST clear it right away!  You greatly reduce your things.  You can breathe again!  The hills are alive with the sound of music!  Ah ah ah ahhhhhhhh!

You buy to become....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - -

This is a cycle of dissatisfaction with your current state.  And it feels very personal.

You are a CONSUMER!  You shout it internally like one would shout WHORE!  You wear your scarlet V upon your chest (for Visa).  You must submit reduce and repeat.

Try unplugging from everything for a bit.

  • unsubscribe from marketing emails
  • stop following influencers that spark the feelings that you need to buy something
  • take a look at what you have
    • sit with it
    • don't judge
    • stop with the negative self talk
    • explore the why behind it
      • do you love it?
      • did you buy it for some fantasy self you are trying to achieve?
      • did you become?
      • does it cause guilt?
It is interesting that many people will tell you to get rid of the fantasy self stuff.  The stuff that causes you guilt.  Hide from all of that.

I think it is better to work with it.  I try shifting the guilt to a different emotion.  Can I still use the piece with a new meaning?

Is the fantasy self piece something I do like?  Can I use it in some way?  Is it dressy and formal and I'm not a dressy, formal person?  Then can I wear the item casually and create my own thing?  Can I create something else out of it that allows me to bring that element in a different way?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - -

I feel better with less.  My brain is healthier with less.  That is me.  Everyone is different.  Everyone thrives in different environments.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - -

Be you.
No apologies.
