Favorite Psalms

Here is a collection of my current favorite Psalms:

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! ~ Psalm 8:1

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? ~Psalm 8:3-4

I will give thanks the Lord with my whole heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds.  I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name O Most High. ~Psalm 9:1-2

The Lords is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in time of trouble.  And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.  ~Psalm 9:9-10

Help, O Lord, for there is no longer anyone who is godly; the faithful have disappeared from humankind.  They utter lies to each other, with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.  May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts, those who say, "With our tongues we will prevail; our lips are our own - who is our master?" "Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy grown, I will now rise up," says the Lord; "I will place them in the safety for which they long." The promises of the Lord are promises that are pure, silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. You, O Lord, will protect us; you will guard us from this generation forever.  On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among humankind. ~Psalm 12

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. ~Psalm 19:14

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even  though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. ~Psalm 23

Make me to know thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long. ~Psalm 25:4-5

Be mindful of thy mercy, O Lord, and of thy steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, or my transgressions; according to thy steadfast love remember me, for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord! ~Psalm 25:6-7

One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. ~Psalm 28:4

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! ~Psalm 28:7

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! ~Psalm 28:13-14

O save your people, and bless your heritage; be their shepherd, and carry them forever. ~Psalm 28:9

Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and shield. Our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. ~Psalm 33:20-22

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, "Great is the Lord!" As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me.  you are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God. ~Psalm 40:16-17

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God. ~Psalm 42:11

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though it waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah ~Psalm 46:1-3

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. ~Psalm 51:10-12

O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise. For thou hast no delight in sacrifice; were I to give a burnt offering, thou wouldst not be pleased. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. ~Psalm 51:15-17

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, “How terrible are thy deeds! So great is thy power that thy enemies cringe before thee. All the earth worships thee; they sing praises to thee, sing praises to thy name.” Selah

Come and see what God has done: he is terrible in his deeds among men. He turned the sea into dry land; men passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him, who rules by his might for ever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard, who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip. For thou, O God, hast tested us; thou hast tried us as silver is tried. Thou didst bring us into the net; thou didst lay affliction on our loins; thou didst let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet thou hast brought us forth to a spacious place. I will come into thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay thee my vows, that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to thee burnt offerings of fatlings, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah

Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me. I cried aloud to him, and he was extolled with my tongue.  If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me! ~Psalm 66
