Stop Doing Filler Work

Stop Doing Filler Work.  No more busy work.  No more putting things down on a list for the sole purpose of a dopamine hit for striking it off!

Your brain rewards you for certain tasks.  Purchase something online?  Dopamine hit.  Eat something not nourishing to your body?  Dopamine hit.  Cross something off your list?  Dopamine hit.

Have you heard that instead of keeping a To Do List you should try a What I Got Done List?  Everything you write down is a dopamine hit.  So we write down things like shower.

Now... if you haven't showered in a while and it truly is a task maybe shower goes down on the list, but if it's something you are going to do no matter what...  you are just writing it down for your Scooby snack.

I have digressed.  🐠

Filler work are those items that don't benefit you in any way, but you do because "Look busy, the boss is coming".

If journaling does nothing for you, filler work.  If making your bed does nothing for you, filler work.  Meditation daily when it doesn't benefit you, filler work.  Reading the bible daily when it doesn't benefit you, filler work.

Stop adding things to your dailies just because you are supposed to.

If you are working to achieve a goal, ask yourself if this action is the best way to achieve it.

Let's say you have a goal to move your body every day.  Is a 30 minute walk achieving that goal?  Or do you need to walk 10,000 steps because Fitbit tells you need to?

Question everything.  Reduce.  Keep only that which you WANT to do and that which is beneficial.
